Fact-Checking Policy

Last reviewed: 30 July 2026 • Written & reviewed by the ShopTera Editorial Team

In short: Every ShopTera guide is checked against publicly available UK regulatory and industry information before publication, and reviewed again if we become aware of a change or an error.

What Fact-Checking Means at ShopTera

Fact-checking, in the context of an educational insurance website, means making sure that general statements about how insurance products, rules and terminology work are accurate and consistent with publicly available UK sources at the time of writing. It does not mean verifying every individual insurer's specific policy wording, which changes provider by provider.

Our Review Process

  1. Research: the author gathers information from publicly available UK regulatory and industry sources, as described in our Sources & Methodology page.
  2. Drafting: the guide is written in plain English, with insurance terminology explained rather than assumed.
  3. Internal review: a member of the editorial team checks the draft for factual accuracy, clarity and consistency with other ShopTera guides before publication.
  4. Publication: the guide goes live with a visible "last reviewed" date.
  5. Ongoing monitoring: guides are revisited periodically, or sooner if an error is reported or a relevant change occurs.

What We Check For

What Fact-Checking Cannot Guarantee

Insurance rules, products and pricing change regularly, and individual insurers may apply their own conditions that differ from general industry practice. Fact-checking a guide at the point of publication does not guarantee that every detail will remain accurate indefinitely, which is why we display a review date on every page rather than presenting content as permanently current.

Reporting a Factual Error

If you believe a ShopTera guide contains an error, we want to know. Please see our Corrections Policy for how to report it, or email admin@shoptera.co.uk directly with the page URL and a description of the issue.
